Pulp & paper

Non-contact basis weight, moisture and ash content measurement in papermaking and pulp drying.

In the pulp and paper industry, gamma transmission is used to determine material properties without touching the web. The technique is insensitive to surface temperature, steam and mechanical vibration — conditions that knock out optical or capacitive sensors.

Typical measurement points

  • After the press section: basis weight and moisture for entry control into drying
  • After the dryer section: quality classification and closed-loop control to PMS
  • After coating: control of applied coat weight

Why gamma

  1. Non-contact — no wear, no web break on stop
  2. No burn-through risk — high linearity over a wide weight range
  3. Operational reliability — NT14 is built for 24/7 in hot, humid environments

See the NT14 series for gauges calibrated for paper applications.
